Crankcase Heater is a device designed to prevent crankcase oil and refrigerant mix-up when the compressor is not running. The Crankcase Heater withholds the oil in the crankcase at a high temperature higher than the coldest part of the system. With the high temperature, it will cause a pressure increase wherein the refrigerant entering the crankcase will be vaporized and no oil-refrigerant mix-up will develop.
